How do I choose a pattern overlay, in photo shop?

i’m using this tutorial

http://abduzeedo.com/basic-animation-photoshop

and I’m on step 4 and i have no idea what i’m supposed to be doing. I’ll choose your best answer right away if you help me. thanks!

1. Open a new or existing document in Photoshop.

2. Create a new layer and add new text or graphics, or select an existing element by clicking on it’s layer. You can add a new layer by clicking on the "Layer" pull-down menu or pressing "Shift+Ctrl+N."

3. Double-click on the layer to bring up the "Layer Style" menu, then click on the "Pattern Overlay" button. Be sure that the check box is selected. Also, remember to check the "Preview" box so that you can see your changes in real time.

4. Use the "Pattern" details menu to select an overlay from the standard library of patterns or upload your own. The opacity, scale and blend mode tools can be used to alter the pattern to fit your vision. Try experimenting with these adjustments to find new effects for your work.

5. Click on "OK" to apply your pattern to the selected element. There should now be an "Fx" designation on the layer you chose indicating that an effect has been applied to that layer. Click on the "Fx" button to alter your effect.

Yes, using Paint Shop Pro 7 and Animation Shop 3 together will let you make glitter effects and graphics. Animation Shop is needed to create the animation. Here are a few ‘glitter’ tutorials, using PSP 7 and AS 3:

Photoshop CS3 – Styles?

If i have an image of a square and I add a drop shadow in style and then later create another copy of the square, how do i add another style that is different from the first style. I need the first square to have a shadow at 45 degree and the other square at 133 degree angle. The problem that I get at the moment is that if i change the style on the first square it changes the style for all my layers. I’m sure the answer to this is easy…but I must be overlooking something. Thanks

Interesting, I’ve never noticed that before, but you’re right.

What it is is that photoshop assumes one major light source, what they call in 3d work global lighting, so if you change one light you change them all.

If you right click one of the layers and choose blending options there is a check box that says Use Global Light, uncheck this and you can change the shadows on any images you have ie each image will have its own unique light source.
Hope thats been useful.

Can someone please give me a photoshop lesson link to do effects like this?

here is the pic :

How do I change my Photoshop font back?

My font in Photoshop has changed, somehow all the fonts have gotten larger so when I have to use small text, I can’t. Size 6 is basically size 20 and I have no idea how to change it back, anyone have any ideas?

You see the opposite problem turn up a lot on YA – that people’s type is too small and they can’t see it. So, I’ll give you the opposite instructions and maybe it will work :D

I bet that your resolution is set way too high. Go to the Image pulldown menu –> Image Size. The resolution should be set to 72 pixels / inch (if you are doing stuff for the screen) or as high as 300 pixels / inch (if you are doing something that is for print).

If it is set higher than that, it may be your problem. If it is set to something like 1000, I can practically guarantee it is your problem.

To fix it – UNclick "Resample Image" at the bottom of the dialog box. Type 72 into the Resolution box and hit ok. Photoshop will resize the text for you – so it will look as huge as it was, but then go and select the text layer and set it back to a normal size.

Photo shop: Which tutorial am i supposed to look up to edit a picture like this..?

I’ve gone to tutorial sites and everything to try and figure out how to edit a picture to make it look like this:

http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m150/xomissxmarissaox/POOP/l_70e7e7a7e6d2a093954b25f417d24dad.png

im not dumb with photo shop and im not expecting anyone to give me step by step instructions on how to do it, but could someone tell me what to look for on the tutorial sites to find out how to make something like this or whatever along those lines.. im clueless! :)

3 steps, assuming you are using Photoshop:
1- find the image you want as background or create it using the basic graphics tools;
2- learn and practice using the MAGIC WAND tool to transfer the girl from another picture;
3- learn and practice using the TEXT tool.
Other common graphics program will have similar functions.
