How can i create a pop art style picture using photoshop?

P.S I’m just a beginner at photoshop. I have some images but how can i create bold colours with strong out lines a.k.a pop art? Is there a special frame for this? Can you please explain it in simple detail as im not a photoshop expert (as much as i would like to be!)

The best site i have found to explain how is on the link below, i have done this for an art project and the effects are really, the second page is probably the best for what you want.

How to make a visual styles by using adobe photoshop /macromedia flash/ fireworks or etc.?

Step by Step options.

Assuming you mean plain old styles, the way you create them is to open the Styles palet, click on the piece of paper icon (new style) next to the trash can icon. Alt-click to give it a name when creating.

Is that what you were asking?

Photoshop question about layer styles?

I have images that have a layer style applied to them (drop shadow). For reasons I won’t go into, the drop shadows HAVE to be created this way and HAVE to stay this way.

Now, I need to feather part of the image. When i do this and delete the feathered selection, the drop shadow stays, making it look really bad. Is there any way to feather and delete a selection, while also having it delete that portion of the drop shadow at the same time?

In the past, I was just choosing "create layer" to make the layer style a new layer and then repeating the feathered selection on the new layer and deleting that, but I have since found out that I cannot do that (for various stupid reasons).

Hope this makes sense….

This has plagued me for years. Unfortunately, the layer styles are always global. You can’t tell PS to only do the style to a certain side of an object on one layer… It’ll have to be done in otherways.

What I do is take the original object (without the drop shadow applied), and duplicate the layer. So now you should have two layers of the exact same thing. The one on the bottom will become the drop shadow. To turn the object on the bottom layer in to a shadow you can COLOR OVERLAY black or grey or whatever color the drop shadow is (in layer styles). Mess around with blur filters and layer opacity to get the style you want… and you erase or delete parts of the shadow layer if you don’t want it visible……

NOW… we aren’t quite done with lecture yet so sit down : )

a MUCH, MUCH easier way is using layer masks… and its VERY easy.

Select the layer you want to add a drop shadow to. Click on the "add layer mask" icon at the bottom of the layers pallete. (looks like a square with a circle in the middle). This will activate the layer mask. The next step will feather it without deleting anything which I’m sure you’ve been doing in the past, right? (going to select menu after selecting a side, feather a few pixels, and deleting it?)

What you do now that the layer has a layer mask, is grab the gradient tool, make sure black to white is selected above (not radial, just linear) and click and drag on the side you want to feather. It will make one side of the gradient transparent and the other opaque so you can see your image. And the transition will be smooth depending on where you start and finish the gradient.

Now this is the cool part, your layer style can be done already or not, but the layer mask will affect the layer style also. You won’t be able to see the darkness of the shadow behind the part of the layer mask thats transparent. In other words, the shadow will appear as the image itself does, so you won’t see it behind the feathering… hopefully you understand it cuz I enjoy teaching design software.

So in short: select layer, add layer mask, apply gradient to feather out the image. And if you want to change the feather sometime in the future (remember you never deleted anything). Highlight the layer mask on the layer by clicking on the layer mask, grab the gradient tool again, and click and drag.

All layer styles will follow the feathering of the mask.

Layer masks are also an excellent way to blend too photos together for a collage or other cool affects… I like to take a photo, duplicate the layer, add cool effect filters to it, and layer mask the original so it blends into the effect on the bottom…

Where can I get the chrome layer style for Adobe Photoshop CS2?

Where can I get the chrome layer style for Adobe Photoshop CS2?
I accidentally deleted my chrome layer style on Photoshop CS2, how can I get it back?

Did you "delete" it as in you physically deleted from the photoshop styles directory or did you just delete it from the styles list? If you just deleted it from the styles list you can get it back by clicking the little circle w/ an arrow on the upper right side of the styles palette and choose Reset Styles. if you deleted it from the photoshop styles directory then you are probably out of luck (unless you can find it on the Photoshop install CD).

Photoshop – Merge layers w/o messing up layer styles for each individual layer?

I am working on a project and it would be much simpler if I could merge my completed layers. All this time I’ve been messing with Photoshop, I still can’t figure out how to merge two layers with individual layer styles. If I have no style applied to one layer, and then have a bevel and emboss applied to the 2nd one, when I merge them together, it then applies the bevel and emboss to the first layer. How do I merge them without messing up the layer styles on each layer?
Thanks Experimentation, but it seems as if the link you provided is broken.

Yeah, I’ve come across this problem quite a few times too. It happens because the bottom layer applies the style to anything on it. If you merge the top layer onto it first, essentially adding more to the bottom layer, it automatically applies the style to that too.

I’m not exactly sure this is the "right" way to do it, but the way I do it does get the job done. First, make an empty layer under the bottom-most layer and merge the bottom layer to it. Then you can merge the top layer to that one without it applying the style to it.

I probably didn’t explain that as well as I should have, but hopefully you get the idea. Let me know how it works out an if you have any other questions or concerns. Hope that helps!
