Photo shop Brightness/contrast problems?

Alright, so I have Adobe Photo Shop CS2, and i just started using it three days ago. I know know all the basics already but I’m stuck in one part. So I’m trying to do this: http://www.freephotoshop.ca/tutorials/effects/photoshop-space-and-planet-tutorial
So i got passed the part were you add the noise into the black background. It then told me to adjust it with bright/contrast option, so i did it a couple times. It looked good on the preview window but when i clicked ok, it would stay the same, so i skipped that step and now im on the Nebula part. It asked for the same thing, so i adjusted it so looked like the one on the tutorial, but i tried clicking on ok again, but nothing happened. I also tried using curves but the same thing. It only worked with Hue/Saturation but it didn’t have the same effect. My picture size is 2000×2000 and 72 for resolution. Any help would be great.
Oh, I found a way around it using a different tutorial. Seems like every tutorial i see has a different way of doing things so thats kind of good. Thanks anyways.

Worked for me… but on the first brightness/contrast I also clicked on legacy, so it kicked it into high gear. Did you notice that they also reduce the fill on the nebulas to 29%
